| | Recent Media News | LeNeave selected for executive committee of AHCA board - Monday, November 21, 2011Washington, DC – During its first planning meeting, the newly elected Board of Governors of the American Health Care Association (AHCA) Board of Governors selected Ted LeNeave to serve as Liaison to the Board’s Executive Committee. A month earlier, LeNeave, who is the President and Chief Executive Officer of American Healthcare, LLC, had been elected to a second term as At-Large Representative of the nation’s largest association of professional long term and post-acute care providers. This additional role means that LeNeave will join AHCA’s Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer and Immediate Past Chair on regular conference calls and in meetings and other interactions with AHCA leadership and staff. “Ted brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board. His first-hand experience as a licensed nursing home administrator is especially valuable as the AHCA board deals with all of the issues our membership faces,” said Governor Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA. Working as a licensed administrator for the past 15 years, LeNeave is active in state issues, having served as Chair of both the Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA) and Virginia Board of Long Term Care Administrators. He also served on VHCA’s Regulatory Committee, and a joint Long Term Care Advisory Committee that brought regulators and providers together to improve quality. At the national level, LeNeave served on the association’s Workforce Committee. In addition to health care issues, LeNeave stays involved in his local community where he served as District Chair for the Boy Scout of America in Roanoke, Virginia. “I am honored to serve on the AHCA Board,” remarked LeNeave. “Our profession has worked diligently to meet the needs of the 1.5 million elderly and disabled Americans cared for in facilities like mine each day. I look forward to working alongside my AHCA colleagues and other stakeholders as we continue to advance quality, advocate on behalf of our members and residents, and anticipate the future long term care needs of our nation.” back to media room »

| Carlisle Nottingham Story - Wednesday, April 06, 2011Carlisle L. Nottingham is a resident at Heritage Hall - Nassawadox and his life holds a very amazing story. Carlisle is originally from the Eastern Shore and attended Cape Charles High School, graduating in 1937. Upon graduation Carlisle went off to fight in World War II and was eventually commissioned in the Army Air Corps on the crew of a B-17 Flying Fortress, as the navigator. During this entire time Carlisle proudly wore his Cape Charles class ring as a reminder of his hometown and his friends and family still living there.
After a mission over Germany in May of 1943 Nottingham’s plane and crew members were shot down near Belgium’s shore. Nottingham survived but was placed in a POW camp called Stalag Luft III, near the border of Germany and Poland. Carlisle remained in this camp, with his class ring close by, until January 27, 1945 when the camp was suddenly moved due to the Russians approaching. During the commotion Carlisle forgot his ring in a separate pair of pants which he left in the camp. He figured he would never see his ring again but as fate would have it, 57 years later his ring was returned. In 1960 an ex-prisoner who had the ring decided to sell it to a German man for 100 German marks. Many years later, the man who purchased the ring gave it to his grandson, Mathias Franke, in case he ever needed extra money. Franke had the ring for a few weeks when he noticed a similar ring on another American, and asked what kind of ring it was. After he found out it was a class ring, Franke did his research and made a contact at Cape Charles High School and after some searching they discovered the 1937 class ring, with the initials CLN, belonged to Carlisle Nottingham. Carlisle and Franke traded emails back and forth for a while until the U.S. Air Force said they would pay for Carlisle. back to media room »
